And your elder sister is Samaria, who lived with her daughters to the north of you; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you, is Sodom with her daughters.

“ Your older sister was Samaria, who lived with her daughters in the north. Your younger sister was Sodom, who lived with her daughters in the south.

Now your older sister is Samaria, who lives north of you with her daughters; and your younger sister, who lives south of you, is Sodom with her daughters.

“ Your elder sister is Samaria, who dwells with her daughters to the north of you; and your younger sister, who dwells to the south of you, is Sodom and her daughters.

And thine elder sister is Samaria, that dwelleth at thy left hand, she and her daughters; and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.

The older one was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. They became mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. As for their names, Oholah represents Samaria and Oholibah represents Jerusalem.

I observed that it was because unfaithful Israel had committed adultery that I had sent her away and had given her a certificate of divorce. Nevertheless, her treacherous sister Judah was not afraid but also went and prostituted herself.Indifferent to her prostitution, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.Yet in spite of all this, her treacherous sister Judah didn’t return to me with all her heart— only in pretense.” This is the LORD’s declaration.The LORD announced to me,“ Unfaithful Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant.

But Samaria did not commit even half your sins. You have multiplied your detestable practices beyond theirs and made your sisters appear righteous by all the detestable acts you have committed.

“‘ As I live— the declaration of the Lord GOD— your sister Sodom and her daughters have not behaved as you and your daughters have.Now this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters had pride, plenty of food, and comfortable security, but didn’t support the poor and needy.

“‘ I will restore their fortunes, the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and those of Samaria and her daughters. I will also restore your fortunes among them,so you will bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you did when you comforted them.As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former state. You and your daughters will also return to your former state.Didn’t you treat your sister Sodom as an object of scorn when you were proud,

Lot looked out and saw that the entire plain of the Jordan as far as Zoar was well watered everywhere like the LORD’s garden and the land of Egypt.( This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)So Lot chose the entire plain of the Jordan for himself. Then Lot journeyed eastward, and they separated from each other.Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot lived in the cities on the plain and set up his tent near Sodom.( Now the men of Sodom were evil, sinning immensely against the LORD.)

“ Now her sister Oholibah saw this, but she was even more depraved in her lust than Oholah, and made her promiscuous acts worse than those of her sister.

Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.

and if he reduced the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes and condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is coming to the ungodly;

How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I surrender you, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart; my compassion is stirred!

“‘ Therefore, I stretched out my hand against you and reduced your provisions. I gave you over to the desire of those who hate you, the Philistine women, who were embarrassed by your indecent conduct.

All this will happen because of Jacob’s rebellion and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the rebellion of Jacob? Isn’t it Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Isn’t it Jerusalem?

All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown, producing nothing, with no plant growing on it, just like the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD demolished in his fierce anger.

and her villages on the mainland will be slaughtered by the sword. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”

The punishment of my dear people is greater than that of Sodom, which was overthrown in an instant without a hand laid on it.

So it was, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham and brought Lot out of the middle of the upheaval when he demolished the cities where Lot had lived.

You have followed the path of your sister, so I will put her cup in your hand.”This is what the Lord GOD says:“ You will drink your sister’s cup, which is deep and wide. You will be an object of ridicule and scorn, for it holds so much.You will be filled with drunkenness and grief, with a cup of devastation and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria.

Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela( that is, Zoar) went out and lined up for battle in the Siddim Valley

It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot: People went on eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building.But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all.It will be like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

Their dead bodies will lie in the main street of the great city, which figuratively is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

For their vine is from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poisonous; their clusters are bitter.

Then the LORD said,“ The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is immense, and their sin is extremely serious.I will go down to see if what they have done justifies the cry that has come up to me. If not, I will find out.”The men turned from there and went toward Sodom while Abraham remained standing before the LORD.Abraham stepped forward and said,“ Will you really sweep away the righteous with the wicked?What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away instead of sparing the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people who are in it?You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is just?”The LORD said,“ If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”Then Abraham answered,“ Since I have ventured to speak to my lord— even though I am dust and ashes—suppose the fifty righteous lack five. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” He replied,“ I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”Then he spoke to him again,“ Suppose forty are found there?” He answered,“ I will not do it on account of forty.”Then he said,“ Let my lord not be angry, and I will speak further. Suppose thirty are found there?” He answered,“ I will not do it if I find thirty there.”Then he said,“ Since I have ventured to speak to my lord, suppose twenty are found there?” He replied,“ I will not destroy it on account of twenty.”Then he said,“ Let my lord not be angry, and I will speak one more time. Suppose ten are found there?” He answered,“ I will not destroy it on account of ten.”When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he departed, and Abraham returned to his place.

Among the prophets of Jerusalem also I saw a horrible thing: They commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, and none turns his back on evil. They are all like Sodom to me; Jerusalem’s residents are like Gomorrah.

If the LORD of Armies had not left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom, we would resemble Gomorrah.Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah!

Then out of the sky the LORD rained on Sodom and Gomorrah burning sulfur from the LORD.He demolished these cities, the entire plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and whatever grew on the ground.
