Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.

“‘ Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you:“ Like mother, like daughter.”

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.

As saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

Thou art the daughter of thy mother, that loatheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto Jerusalem: Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of the Canaanite; the Amorite was thy father, and thy mother was a Hittite.

But mingled themselves with the nations, And learned their works,And served their idols, Which became a snare unto them.Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood.

Son of man, what is this proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth?

And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom Jehovah carried away before them; and they wrought wicked things to provoke Jehovah to anger;
