爾見其所為、知我降災、非出無因、則爾怨悉平、我耶和華已言之矣。

爾見其舉止行為、則使爾覺安慰、爾曹則知我凡所行於耶路撒冷者、並非無故、此乃主天主所言、

You will be comforted when you see how they act and the way they live. Then you will know that I did not do anything there without a reason,” announces the Lord and King.

They will console you, when you see their ways and their deeds, and you shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, declares the Lord God.”

When you meet them and see their behavior, you will understand that these things are not being done to Israel without cause. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”

The Lord did not hesitate to bring the disaster on us, for the Lord our God is righteous in everything he does; yet we have not obeyed him.

While they were killing and I was left alone, I fell facedown, crying out,“ Alas, Sovereign Lord! Are you going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in this outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?”He answered me,“ The sin of the people of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great; the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of injustice. They say,‘ The Lord has forsaken the land; the Lord does not see.’

And he said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what they are doing— the utterly detestable things the Israelites are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.”Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall.He said to me,“ Son of man, now dig into the wall.” So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.And he said to me,“ Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here.”So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel.In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.He said to me,“ Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say,‘ The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.’”Again, he said,“ You will see them doing things that are even more detestable.”Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and I saw women sitting there, mourning the god Tammuz.He said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this.”He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.He said to me,“ Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose!Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”

for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.”

“ Lord, you are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame— the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far, in all the countries where you have scattered us because of our unfaithfulness to you.

Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.Then Abraham approached him and said:“ Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?Far be it from you to do such a thing— to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”The Lord said,“ If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”Then Abraham spoke up again:“ Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes,what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five people?”“ If I find forty- five there,” he said,“ I will not destroy it.”Once again he spoke to him,“ What if only forty are found there?” He said,“ For the sake of forty, I will not do it.”Then he said,“ May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?” He answered,“ I will not do it if I find thirty there.”Abraham said,“ Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?” He said,“ For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.”Then he said,“ May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?” He answered,“ For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”When the Lord had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to arouse my anger.But am I the one they are provoking? declares the Lord. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame?“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: My anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place— on man and beast, on the trees of the field and on the crops of your land— and it will burn and not be quenched.“‘ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves!For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices,but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.From the time your ancestors left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again I sent you my servants the prophets.But they did not listen to me or pay attention. They were stiff-necked and did more evil than their ancestors.’“ When you tell them all this, they will not listen to you; when you call to them, they will not answer.Therefore say to them,‘ This is the nation that has not obeyed the Lord its God or responded to correction. Truth has perished; it has vanished from their lips.

But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.
