Then the people of Israel will no longer wander away from me. And they will not make themselves‘ unclean’ anymore with their many sins. They will be my people. And I will be their God,” ’ announces the Lord and King.”

They will no longer defile themselves with their idols and vile images or with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding, and I will cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

This will be for the consecrated priests, the Zadokites, who were faithful in serving me and did not go astray as the Levites did when the Israelites went astray.

“‘ The Levites who went far from me when Israel went astray and who wandered from me after their idols must bear the consequences of their sin.

“ They will return to it and remove all its vile images and detestable idols.I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

the terms I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of the iron-smelting furnace.’ I said,‘ Obey me and do everything I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God.

“‘ But the Levitical priests, who are descendants of Zadok and who guarded my sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, are to come near to minister before me; they are to stand before me to offer sacrifices of fat and blood, declares the Sovereign Lord.

“ This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord.“ I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

They will be my people, and I will be their God.

From that day forward the people of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God.

Instead, they were longing for a better country— a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you.

This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say,‘ They are my people,’ and they will say,‘ The Lord is our God.’”

They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer, who loved the wages of wickedness.

“ My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock. I will remove them from tending the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves. I will rescue my flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them.“‘ For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land.I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign Lord.I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.“‘ As for you, my flock, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will judge between one sheep and another, and between rams and goats.Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also trample the rest of your pasture with your feet? Is it not enough for you to drink clear water? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet?Must my flock feed on what you have trampled and drink what you have muddied with your feet?“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.Because you shove with flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns until you have driven them away,I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered. I will judge between one sheep and another.I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.“‘ I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of savage beasts so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the forests in safety.I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.The trees will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them.They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will wild animals devour them. They will live in safety, and no one will make them afraid.I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the scorn of the nations.Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, am with them and that they, the Israelites, are my people, declares the Sovereign Lord.You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”

Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.

Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.

My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.

I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says concerning the prophets:“ I will make them eat bitter food and drink poisoned water, because from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has spread throughout the land.”

The rest of the people will hear of this and be afraid, and never again will such an evil thing be done among you.
