Then the glory of the Lord moved out from the entrance of the Temple and hovered above the cherubim.

Then the glory of the Lord departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.

Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.

Surrounded by unnumbered thousands of chariots, the Lord came from Mount Sinai into his sanctuary.When you ascended to the heights, you led a crowd of captives. You received gifts from the people, even from those who rebelled against you. Now the Lord God will live among us there.

Then he abandoned his dwelling at Shiloh, the Tabernacle where he had lived among the people.He allowed the Ark of his might to be captured; he surrendered his glory into enemy hands.

After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

The cherubim were standing at the south end of the Temple when the man went in, and the cloud of glory filled the inner courtyard.Then the glory of the Lord rose up from above the cherubim and went over to the entrance of the Temple. The Temple was filled with this cloud of glory, and the courtyard glowed brightly with the glory of the Lord.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me.And now, look, your house is abandoned and desolate.For I tell you this, you will never see me again until you say,‘ Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

They were proud of their beautiful jewelry and used it to make detestable idols and vile images. Therefore, I will make all their wealth disgusting to them.I will give it as plunder to foreigners, to the most wicked of nations, and they will defile it.I will turn my eyes from them as these robbers invade and defile my treasured land.

Even if you do have children who grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone.

“‘ Go now to the place at Shiloh where I once put the Tabernacle that bore my name. See what I did there because of all the wickedness of my people, the Israelites.While you were doing these wicked things, says the Lord, I spoke to you about it repeatedly, but you would not listen. I called out to you, but you refused to answer.So just as I destroyed Shiloh, I will now destroy this Temple that bears my name, this Temple that you trust in for help, this place that I gave to you and your ancestors.

Listen to this warning, Jerusalem, or I will turn from you in disgust. Listen, or I will turn you into a heap of ruins, a land where no one lives.”

As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven.
