I was 30 years old. I was with my people. We had been taken away from our country. We were by the Kebar River in the land of Babylon. On the fifth day of the fourth month, the heavens were opened. I saw visions of God.

These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the Kebar River, and I realized that they were cherubim.

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.

The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown.

After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said,“ Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”

In the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign, I, Daniel, had a vision, after the one that had already appeared to me.In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa in the province of Elam; in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal.

He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.

He then added,“ Very truly I tell you, you will see‘ heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”

Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.

And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said,“ Jacob! Jacob!”“ Here I am,” he replied.

So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God’s hands, but no one knows whether love or hate awaits them.All share a common destiny— the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good, so with the sinful; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.

“ And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
