耶和華對摩西說：“你要向天伸杖，使埃及全地都有冰雹，落在人身上、在牲畜身上和埃及地田間所有的蔬菜上。”摩西把手杖向天一伸，耶和華就打雷（“打雷”原文作“神的聲音”）下雹，有火落在地上；耶和華使冰雹降在埃及地上。那時有了冰雹，冰雹與火混雜在一起，十分嚴重；埃及全地自從建國以來，未曾有過這樣的冰雹。在埃及全地，冰雹把田間的一切，連人和牲畜都擊打了；冰雹又把田間的一切蔬菜擊打了，也把田間的一切樹木打斷了。

這是因為當神人對王說：“明天大約這個時分，在撒瑪利亞城門口，六公斤大麥賣十一克銀子，三公斤麵粉也賣十一克銀子。”

以利沙說：“你們要聽耶和華的話。耶和華這樣說：‘明日大約這個時候，在撒瑪利亞的城門，三公斤麵粉只賣十一克銀子，六公斤大麥也只是賣十一克銀子。’”

求你也照樣用狂風追趕他們，藉暴風雨驚嚇他們。

明天大約這個時間，我要差派我的臣僕到你那裡去；他們要搜查你的王宮和你臣僕的家；凡是他們看為寶貴的，他們都要下手拿走。’”

耶洗別就差派一個使者去見以利亞說：“明天這個時候，如果我不使你的性命，像那些人一樣，願神明懲罰我，並且加倍懲罰我。”
