亞倫的兒子以利亞撒也死了；人把他埋葬在基比亞、他兒子非尼哈的小山上，就是非尼哈在以法蓮山地所得的業。

祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裏拿着槍，跟着那以色列人進圓拱帳幕，把他們兩個人刺死，就是刺死那以色列人和那女人，槍由肚子裏透過去。這樣、疫症就從以色列人中制住了。那時因疫症而死的、有二萬四千人。永恆主告訴摩西說：『祭司亞倫的孫子以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈使我向以色列人所發的烈怒轉消，因他在他們中間以妒愛熱情愛我，使我因妒愛熱情不把以色列人滅盡。故此你要說：「看哪，我將我和平之約給他，要做他和他以後的苗裔永遠擔當祭司職任的約，因為他對他的上帝有妒愛熱情，並且為以色列人除罪。」』

以色列人打發了祭司以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈往基列地、去見如便人、迦得人、和瑪拿西半族派的人，

祭司以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈對如便人、迦得人、瑪拿西人說：『今天我們才知道永恆主究竟在我們中間，因為你們對永恆主並沒有這樣不忠實；現在你們簡直是援救了以色列人脫離永恆主的手了。』祭司以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈和首領們、離開了如便人和迦得人，從基列地回迦南地，到了以色列人那裏，向他們報告，

那時非尼哈站起來干涉，疫症這才被制住。那就算為他的義行，世世代代到永遠。

摩西就每支派一千人打發他們去打仗，打發他們和祭司以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈去打仗，非尼哈手裏拿着聖所的器物、和吹大聲的號筒。
