亞倫的兒子以利亞撒也死了，他們把他葬在他兒子非尼哈分到的以法蓮山區的基比亞。

亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，便起身離開會眾，拿著矛槍，跟著進入那人的帳篷，一槍刺透那對男女的腹部。以色列人當中的瘟疫馬上止住了，但已有兩萬四千人死於瘟疫。耶和華對摩西說：「亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈消了我對以色列人的怒氣。因為在會眾中他與我一樣痛恨不貞，我才沒有在烈怒中消滅他們。你告訴他，我要賜給他平安的約，使他和他的後代憑此約可以永遠做祭司，因為他為我除掉了不貞之人，為以色列人贖了罪。」

以色列人派祭司以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈去基列見他們，

以利亞撒的兒子祭司非尼哈對他們說：「今日我們知道耶和華在我們當中，因為你們沒有對耶和華不忠，現在你們使以色列人免遭耶和華的懲罰了。」以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈祭司和眾族長便離開呂便人和迦得人，從基列回到迦南向以色列人報告這事。

直到非尼哈起來懲罰罪人，瘟疫才停止。這就是他的義行，世代永存。

每個支派選出的一千軍兵由摩西派遣出戰，以利亞撒祭司的兒子非尼哈拿著聖所的器具和號角隨行。
