Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys.

In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;

He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to give light in the night.

So they departed from the mountain of the Lord on a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them for the three days’ journey, to search out a resting place for them.And the cloud of the Lord was above them by day when they went out from the camp.So it was, whenever the ark set out, that Moses said:“ Rise up, O Lord! Let Your enemies be scattered, And let those who hate You flee before You.”And when it rested, he said:“ Return, O Lord, To the many thousands of Israel.”

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

In the daytime also He led them with the cloud, And all the night with a light of fire.

Now it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle of the Testimony.And the children of Israel set out from the Wilderness of Sinai on their journeys; then the cloud settled down in the Wilderness of Paran.So they started out for the first time according to the command of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.

‘ And for an unclean person they shall take some of the ashes of the heifer burnt for purification from sin, and running water shall be put on them in a vessel.A clean person shall take hyssop and dip it in the water, sprinkle it on the tent, on all the vessels, on the persons who were there, or on the one who touched a bone, the slain, the dead, or a grave.The clean person shall sprinkle the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day; and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, wash his clothes, and bathe in water; and at evening he shall be clean.‘ But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person shall be cut off from among the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of purification has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.It shall be a perpetual statute for them. He who sprinkles the water of purification shall wash his clothes; and he who touches the water of purification shall be unclean until evening.Whatever the unclean person touches shall be unclean; and the person who touches it shall be unclean until evening.’”
