因為有預備好的會幕：第一間裡有燈臺、桌子和陳設餅，這叫做聖所；

生命在他裡面，這生命就是人的光。這光在黑暗中照耀，黑暗卻沒有勝過這光。有一個人受神的差派而來，他名叫約翰。他為見證而來，是要為這光做見證，好讓人都藉著他相信。他不是這光，而是要為這光做見證。這光是真光，來到這世界照亮每個人。

然後我問那天使說：「在燈臺右邊和左邊的那兩棵橄欖樹是什麼意思呢？」

好使你們成為無可指責、純潔無偽的人，在這扭曲、敗壞的世代中，做神毫無瑕疵的兒女；在這世代中，要像星星的光輝一樣照耀在世上。

他問我：「你看見了什麼？」我回答：「我觀看，看哪，有一個燈臺，全是金的，頂上有油碗，燈臺上有七盞燈，頂上的燈各有七個燈嘴！

人點亮了油燈，也不會放在斗底下，而會放在燈臺上，它就照亮屋子裡所有的人。

我轉過身，要看看誰的聲音對我說話。我轉過身就看見了七座金燈臺。燈臺中間有一位彷彿人子的，身穿垂到腳的長袍，胸間束著金帶。他的頭和頭髮潔白，如白羊毛、如雪；他的眼睛如同火焰；他的兩腳彷彿在爐中被煉過的精銅；他的聲音好像眾水的聲音；在他的右手中拿著七顆星；從他口中發出一把雙刃的利劍；他的面容好像烈日發光。我一看見他，就仆倒在他的腳前，像死人那樣。他把右手放在我身上，說：「不要怕！我就是首先的，是末後的，是那永生的。我曾經死過，可是看哪，我現在活著，直到永永遠遠，並且拿著死亡和陰間的鑰匙。因此，你要把所看見的，就是現在的事，和此後將要發生的事，都寫下來。你所看見的，我右手中的七顆星，和這七座金燈臺的奧祕就是：七顆星是七個教會的使者，七座燈臺是七個教會。「你要給那在以弗所教會的使者寫信說：「那位右手握著七顆星、在七座金燈臺中間行走的，這樣說：我知道你的行為，包括你的勞苦和忍耐，也知道你不能容忍惡人。你曾考驗那些自稱是使徒，其實不是使徒的，而且看出他們是假的。你也有忍耐，曾為我的名勞苦，並不疲乏。然而，我有事要責備你，就是你放棄了你起初的愛；所以你應當記住你是從哪裡跌落的，應當悔改，應當行你起初所做的事！否則我就要來到你那裡；如果你不悔改，我就要把你的燈臺從原處挪去。
