以色列人在旷野的时候，有一个人在安息日捡柴。遇见他捡柴的人，就把他带到摩西、亚伦和全体会众那里。他们把他收在监里，因为要怎样办他，还未明朗。耶和华对摩西说：“那人必须处死，全体会众要在营外用石头把他打死。”于是全体会众把他拉出营外，用石头把他打死，正如耶和华吩咐摩西的。

六日之内，你要作你的工；但第七日你要安息，好使你的牛和驴可以歇息，并且使你婢女的儿子和寄居的也可以有时间喘息一下。

如果有人干犯了摩西的律法，凭着两三个证人，他尚且得不到怜悯而死；何况是践踏神的儿子，把那使他成圣的立约的血当作俗物，又侮辱施恩的圣灵的人，你们想想，他不是应该受更严厉的刑罚吗？

从此犹太人就迫害耶稣，因为他常常在安息日作这些事。

那透过天使所传讲的信息既然是确定的，所有干犯和不听从的，都受了应得的报应。如果我们忽略了这么大的救恩，怎么能逃罪呢？这救恩起初是由主亲自宣讲的，后来听见的人给我们证实了。

“‘要遵守安息日为圣日，照着耶和华你神吩咐你的。六日要劳碌，作你一切工作。但第七日是属于耶和华你神的安息日；这一日，你和你的儿女、仆婢、牛驴和一切牲畜，以及你城里的寄居者，不可作任何的工，好使你的仆婢可以和你一样享受安息。你要记住：你在埃及地作过奴仆；耶和华你的神用大能的手和伸出来的膀臂，把你从那里领出来，因此耶和华你的神吩咐你要守安息日。
