耶和华在西奈山对摩西说完这些话以后，就把自己用指头刻上诫命的两块石版交给摩西。

摩西上到山上，走进云中，在那里停留了四十昼夜。

“因为耶和华说要毁灭你们，我就俯伏在耶和华面前四十昼夜，

“我又俯伏在耶和华面前，四十昼夜不吃不喝，因为你们犯了大罪，做耶和华憎恶的事，惹祂发怒。

那时，我上山去接受耶和华与你们立约的石版，在山上待了四十昼夜，不吃也不喝。

石版是上帝做的，字是上帝刻的。

这最终带来死亡、刻在石版上的律法条文的事工尚且有荣耀，甚至使摩西的脸上发出荣光，尽管很快就消逝了，以色列人仍然无法定睛看他，

我要把你摔碎的那两块石版上的话重新写在你凿的石版上。你要把它们放在柜子里。’于是，我用皂荚木做了一个柜子，又凿了两块石版，与前两块石版一样，然后带着石版上了山。耶和华把你们在山脚下聚会时祂在山上的火焰中向你们颁布的十条诫命，重新刻在石版上，并把石版交给我。
