耶和华曾告诉以色列人不可跟这些外族人通婚，免得受引诱去随从他们的神明，所罗门却迷恋这些女子。他有七百个妻子，都是外国的公主，还有三百个妃嫔。这些女子使他的心背弃耶和华。所罗门年老的时候，他的嫔妃诱惑他的心去追随别的神明。他没有像他父亲大卫那样忠心顺服他的上帝耶和华。

不可与他们通婚，不可让你们的儿女与他们的儿女通婚，因为他们会让你们的儿女离弃耶和华去拜其他神明，以致耶和华向你们发怒，迅速毁灭你们。

他们为自己和自己的儿子娶这些人的女儿为妻，使圣洁的民族与当地的人混杂。首领和官员是这种不忠之事的罪魁。”

我就斥责他们，咒诅他们，打了他们其中一些人，又扯他们的头发，要他们奉上帝的名起誓不再让自己的子女与外族人通婚，自己也不娶外族女子。

那些天，我见犹大人娶了亚实突、亚扪和摩押的女子为妻。

以色列人驻扎在什亭期间，有些人与摩押女子行淫。那些女子邀他们参加祭祀，他们吃了祭物，并跪拜她们的神明，

不要和非信徒同负一轭，因为公义和不法怎能合作呢？光明和黑暗怎能共存呢？基督与魔鬼怎能相容呢？信徒与非信徒有什么相干呢？上帝的殿与偶像怎能相提并论呢？因为我们就是永活上帝的殿，正如上帝说：“我要住在他们中间，在他们当中往来；我要做他们的上帝，他们要做我的子民。”又说：“所以，你们要从他们中间出来，离开他们，不要沾染污秽之物，我就接纳你们。
