The LORD also said to Moses,“ I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people.Now leave me alone, so that my anger can burn against them and I can destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.”

and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey— the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

Understand that the LORD your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.“ Remember and do not forget how you provoked the LORD your God in the wilderness. You have been rebelling against the LORD from the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place.You provoked the LORD at Horeb, and he was angry enough with you to destroy you.When I went up the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant the LORD made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I did not eat food or drink water.On the day of the assembly the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, inscribed by God’s finger. The exact words were on them, which the LORD spoke to you from the fire on the mountain.The LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant, at the end of the forty days and forty nights.“ The LORD said to me,‘ Get up and go down immediately from here. For your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly. They have quickly turned from the way that I commanded them; they have made a cast image for themselves.’The LORD also said to me,‘ I have seen this people, and indeed, they are a stiff-necked people.

“ If your presence does not go,” Moses responded to him,“ don’t make us go up from here.How will it be known that I and your people have found favor with you unless you go with us? I and your people will be distinguished by this from all the other people on the face of the earth.”The LORD answered Moses,“ I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor with me, and I know you by name.”

Listen and testify against the house of Jacob— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD, the God of Armies.I will punish the altars of Bethel on the day I punish Israel for its crimes; the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.

in order to establish the oath I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is today.’” I answered,“ Amen, LORD.”

“ Get away from this community so that I may consume them instantly.” But they fell facedown.

“ Separate yourselves from this community so I may consume them instantly.”

When I tell the righteous person that he will surely live, but he trusts in his righteousness and acts unjustly, then none of his righteousness will be remembered, and he will die because of the injustice he has committed.“‘ So when I tell the wicked person,“ You will surely die,” but he repents of his sin and does what is just and right—he returns collateral, makes restitution for what he has stolen, and walks in the statutes of life without committing injustice— he will certainly live; he will not die.None of the sins he committed will be held against him. He has done what is just and right; he will certainly live.

For the Israelites wandered in the wilderness forty years until all the nation’s men of war who came out of Egypt had died off because they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD vowed never to let them see the land he had sworn to their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

“ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit. As your ancestors did, you do also.

If the LORD is pleased with us, he will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and give it to us.

They reported to Moses,“ We went into the land where you sent us. Indeed it is flowing with milk and honey, and here is some of its fruit.

God saw their actions— that they had turned from their evil ways— so God relented from the disaster he had threatened them with. And he did not do it.

Is it not enough that you brought us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness? Do you also have to appoint yourself as ruler over us?

So the LORD relented concerning the disaster he had said he would bring on his people.

I will strike them with a plague and destroy them. Then I will make you into a greater and mightier nation than they are.”

Be attentive to him and listen to him. Do not defy him, because he will not forgive your acts of rebellion, for my name is in him.

Jonah set out on the first day of his walk in the city and proclaimed,“ In forty days Nineveh will be demolished!”

When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you must carry out this ceremony in this month.

If I say to the wicked person,‘ You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him— you don’t speak out to warn him about his wicked way in order to save his life— that wicked person will die for his iniquity. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.But if you warn a wicked person and he does not turn from his wickedness or his wicked way, he will die for his iniquity, but you will have rescued yourself.

“ I would have said: I will cut them to pieces and blot out the memory of them from mankind,if I had not feared provocation from the enemy, or feared that these foes might misunderstand and say,‘ Our own hand has prevailed; it wasn’t the LORD who did all this.’”

“ Therefore, this is the declaration of the LORD, the God of Israel:‘ I did say that your family and your forefather’s family would walk before me forever. But now,’ this is the LORD’s declaration,‘ no longer! For those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disgraced.

And I promised you: You will inherit their land, since I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the LORD your God who set you apart from the peoples.

Then he said,“ My Lord, if I have indeed found favor with you, my Lord, please go with us( even though this is a stiff-necked people), forgive our iniquity and our sin, and accept us as your own possession.”

At one moment I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will uproot, tear down, and destroy it.However, if that nation about which I have made the announcement turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the disaster I had planned to do to it.At another time I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it.However, if it does what is evil in my sight by not listening to me, I will relent concerning the good I had said I would do to it.

Then they would not be like their ancestors, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not loyal and whose spirit was not faithful to God.
