永恆主擊殺了人民，是因為他們對亞倫造的牛犢所作的事的緣故。

耶和华杀百姓的缘故是因他们同亚伦做了牛犊。

耶和华降灾与百姓，因为他们和亚伦一起造了牛犊。

這時把耶穌送官的猶大見耶穌被定了罪，就後悔，把那三十錠銀子還給祭司長和長老，說：『我把無辜人送官處死，我有罪了。』他們說：『那與我們何干？你自理吧！』猶大把那銀子丟在殿堂裏，就退出來，去吊死了。祭司長取了那銀子說：『不該把它放在禮物庫裏，因為那是血價。』他們就商議，用那銀子買塊窰匠的田地，做埋葬旅客的用處。

摩西看見人民放縱（是亞倫縱容他們，以致他們在那些起來反對他們、的人中間被訾議），

這人用不義的工錢買得了一塊園地，竟翻跟頭仆倒了，肚子爆裂，腸子迸流出來。

亞倫從他們手裏接過來，用雕刻的器具雕造它，作成一隻鑄像的牛犢；他們就說：『以色列啊，這就是你們的神、那領你們從埃及地上來的！』

你為甚麼藐視永恆主的話，行他所看為壞的事；將赫人烏利亞用刀擊殺，而娶了他的妻做你的妻子，借亞捫人的刀去殺害他呢？現在呢、你既藐視了我，娶了赫人烏利亞的妻做你的妻子，刀劍就永不離開你的家。」

當那些日子、他們真地造了牛犢了，又把祭物供上去給那偶像，並且因他們自己手中所製造的而歡躍。
