「『耶和華說，你們要留心聽我的話，在安息日不可運貨物進耶路撒冷的城門，不可做任何工作，要守安息日為聖日。這樣，坐大衛寶座的君王及其官員必乘車騎馬和猶大人以及耶路撒冷的居民從城門出入。這城必永遠有人居住。人們必帶著燔祭、平安祭、素祭、乳香和感恩祭從猶大的城邑、耶路撒冷四周、便雅憫地區、丘陵、山區和南地去耶和華的殿。但如果你們不聽我的話，不守安息日為聖日，仍在安息日運貨物進耶路撒冷的城門，我必在各城門點起無法撲滅的大火，燒毀耶路撒冷的宮殿。』」

便回家去預備香料和膏油。安息日到了，她們按律法的規定休息了一天。

一週可以工作六天，但第七天是聖日，是你們為耶和華守安息的日子。凡在這一天工作的，必被處死。

「要記住安息日，守為聖日。你一週可工作六天，但第七天是你的上帝耶和華的安息日，這一天你和兒女、僕婢、牲畜及你那裡的外族人不可做任何工。因為耶和華用六天造了天、地、海和其中的萬物，第七天便休息了，所以耶和華賜福這日，把它定為聖日。

這樣說來，必定另有一個安息日為上帝的子民存留，使他們可以真正安歇。

這是我和以色列人之間永久的記號。耶和華用六天的時間創造天地萬物，在第七天停工休息。」

你們要守安息日，以它為聖日。凡不守這誡命的，必被處死。凡在這天工作的，必從民中被剷除。

以色列人在曠野的時候，發現有人在安息日撿柴，他們就把撿柴的人帶到摩西、亞倫和全體會眾那裡，把他關起來，因為不知道如何處置他。耶和華對摩西說：「必須處死那人，全體會眾要在營外用石頭打死他。」於是，全體會眾照耶和華對摩西的吩咐，把他拉到營外，用石頭打死了他。

「主耶和華說，『聖殿內院的東門在平時工作的六日內都要關閉，只在安息日和朔日才打開。

會堂主管看到耶穌在安息日為人治病，十分惱怒，就對眾人說：「一週有六天可以工作，求醫應當在這六天之內，不可在安息日！」

你們有六天可以拾取食物，但第七天是安息日，沒有食物可以拾取。」

那是你們可以完全休息的安息之日。從七月九日傍晚至次日傍晚，你們必須禁食。」
