亚伦的儿子拿答、亚比户各拿自己的香炉，盛上火，加上香，在耶和华面前献上凡火，是耶和华没有吩咐他们的，就有火从耶和华面前出来，把他们烧灭，他们就死在耶和华面前。于是摩西对亚伦说：“这就是耶和华所说：‘我在亲近我的人中要显为圣；在众民面前，我要得荣耀。’”亚伦就默默不言。

耶和华因伯示麦人擅观他的约柜，就击杀了他们七十人；那时有五万人在那里。百姓因耶和华大大击杀他们，就哀哭了。

亚拿尼亚听见这话，就仆倒，断了气；听见的人都甚惧怕。

耶和华向他发怒，因他伸手扶住约柜击杀他，他就死在神面前。

所以我们既得了不能震动的国，就当感恩，照神所喜悦的，用虔诚、敬畏的心侍奉神。因为我们的神乃是烈火。

亚伦的两个儿子近到耶和华面前死了。死了之后，耶和华晓谕摩西说：“要告诉你哥哥亚伦，不可随时进圣所的幔子内、到柜上的施恩座前，免得他死亡，因为我要从云中显现在施恩座上。

你们要吃无酵饼七日。头一日要把酵从你们各家中除去；因为从头一日起，到第七日为止，凡吃有酵之饼的，必从以色列中剪除。

妇人立刻仆倒在彼得脚前，断了气。那些少年人进来，见她已经死了，就抬出去，埋在她丈夫旁边。
