亞倫的兒子拿答和亞比戶各拿著自己的香爐，盛上火，加上香，在耶和華面前獻上平常的火，是耶和華沒有命令他們獻的。那時有火從耶和華面前出來，把他們燒滅，他們就死在耶和華面前。於是摩西對亞倫說：“這就是耶和華曾經告訴我們的，他說：‘在親近我的人中，我要顯為聖，在眾人面前，我要得榮耀。’”亞倫就默然無語。

耶和華因為伯．示麥人偷窺他的約櫃，就擊殺他們；他擊殺了七十人（“七十人”大多數文本都作“五萬零七十人”，少數文本作“七十人”）。眾人因為耶和華用大災擊殺他們，就哀哭起來。

亞拿尼亞一聽見這話，就仆倒斷了氣。所有聽見的人都十分害怕。

於是耶和華向烏撒發怒，因為烏撒伸手把約櫃扶住，所以神把他擊殺，他就在那裡死在神面前。

因此，我們既然領受了不能震動的國，就應該感恩，照著神所喜悅的，用虔誠敬畏的心事奉他；因為我們的神是烈火。

亞倫的兩個兒子走近耶和華面前而死亡以後，耶和華對摩西說：“你要告訴你的哥哥亞倫，不可隨時進入聖所的幔子裡面，到約櫃上的施恩座，免得他死亡，因為我在施恩座上的彩雲中顯現。

“你們要吃無酵餅七天；可是第一天就要把酵從你們的家中除去；因為從第一日起直到第七日，凡吃有酵之物的，那人必從以色列中被除滅。

她立刻就仆倒在彼得腳前，斷了氣。那些青年人進來，發現她死了，把她也抬出去，埋在她丈夫旁邊。
