在圣者的议会中，神是令人惊惧的，比一切在他周围的都更为可畏。

亚伦的儿子拿答和亚比户各拿着自己的香炉，盛上火，加上香，在耶和华面前献上平常的火，是耶和华没有命令他们献的。那时有火从耶和华面前出来，把他们烧灭，他们就死在耶和华面前。于是摩西对亚伦说：“这就是耶和华曾经告诉我们的，他说：‘在亲近我的人中，我要显为圣，在众人面前，我要得荣耀。’”亚伦就默然无语。

耶和华因为伯．示麦人偷窥他的约柜，就击杀他们；他击杀了七十人（“七十人”大多数文本都作“五万零七十人”，少数文本作“七十人”）。众人因为耶和华用大灾击杀他们，就哀哭起来。

亚拿尼亚一听见这话，就仆倒断了气。所有听见的人都十分害怕。

于是耶和华向乌撒发怒，因为乌撒伸手把约柜扶住，所以神把他击杀，他就在那里死在神面前。

因此，我们既然领受了不能震动的国，就应该感恩，照着神所喜悦的，用虔诚敬畏的心事奉他；因为我们的神是烈火。

亚伦的两个儿子走近耶和华面前而死亡以后，耶和华对摩西说：“你要告诉你的哥哥亚伦，不可随时进入圣所的幔子里面，到约柜上的施恩座，免得他死亡，因为我在施恩座上的彩云中显现。

“你们要吃无酵饼七天；可是第一天就要把酵从你们的家中除去；因为从第一日起直到第七日，凡吃有酵之物的，那人必从以色列中被除灭。

她立刻就仆倒在彼得脚前，断了气。那些青年人进来，发现她死了，把她也抬出去，埋在她丈夫旁边。
