“ When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.

核算會眾二十歲以上者、計六十萬三千五百五十人、各獻銀一吡咖、即二錢有半、循聖所權衡計之、共十五萬八百八十七兩半、

然生命將絕、雖有密友不能贖之、而上帝錫以齡兮、

猶人子至、非以役人、乃役於人、且舍生為眾贖也、○

爾蹈祖愆得見贖者、知不以剝蝕之金銀、實以基督之寶血、譬彼羔羊、無疵無玷、

王召祭司長耶何耶大告之曰、昔耶和華僕摩西、使以色列族、為法幕之用獻金、曷不使利未人、取猶大族、耶路撒冷民、所獻之金、以循此例。

耶和華復怒以色列族、任大闢眩惑於衷、使核猶大以色列二族、軍長約押侍側王諭之曰、爾遍行以色列族支派、自但至別是巴、核其民數、反而告我。約押告王曰、勿論民數多寡、惟願耶和華爾之上帝、增益百倍、我主我王目擊其事、然我主我王喜於核民、誠何故哉。王意已決、約押及武士長不能違、於是退而核數以色列族、濟約但至伽得河中之亞囉耳、建營於邑南、牙設相向之所。後至基列、答丁合示地、及但雅安、環繞至西頓、至推羅城、與希未迦南諸邑、延出猶大南方、至別是巴、遍行其地、凡越九月二十日、而返耶路撒冷。約押核民眾、以數進於王、以色列族能從軍者八十萬、猶大族五十萬。大闢核民既畢、中心不安、禱於耶和華曰、我所行者、大干罪戾、不智孰甚、求耶和華宥僕之過。先見者伽得為大闢所倚重、詰朝大闢起、耶和華命彼、往告大闢曰、三災之中、耶和華必降一於爾、使爾自擇。伽得告大闢曰、或饑饉臨於爾土、歷至七年、或為敵追襲、歷至三月、或瘟疫流行爾國、歷至三日、爾其思之、俾我反告遣我者。大闢曰我迫阨甚矣耶和華矜憫為懷、願陷於其手、勿陷於人手。當日清晨、耶和華降疫癘、遍染以色列族、迄至所定之期、自但及別是巴死者七萬。

以色列會眾、循其世系、自二十歲以上、能臨陳者、當核其數。摩押平原、約但河濱、耶利哥相對之所、摩西及祭司以利亞撒總核民數、自二十歲以上者、遵耶和華諭摩西之命。出自埃及之以色列族、其數臚列如左。○

以色列會眾、循其世系宗族、凡諸丁男、一一核其數、自二十歲以上、能臨陳者、爾及亞倫、當依其數而計之。每支派中、擇最著者一人、以助爾。今述其名、屬流便支派、示丟耳子以利蓿。

舍己贖眾、斯道及時必傳、

上帝震怒、恐加刑譴、雖多金不能贖、

於是主矜憫其人曰、我已贖彼、免其入墓。

耶和華降疫癘、遍染以色列族、死者七萬。

蓋人子至、非以役人、乃役於人、且舍生為眾贖也、○
