“ When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.

洗鲁雅的儿子约押开始数点，却还没有数完。为了这事，烈怒临到以色列，数点的数目也没有写在《大卫王记》上。

会中被数的人所献的银子，按圣所的舍客勒，一共是一百他连得，一千七百七十五舍客勒。凡曾被数的，就是二十岁以上的人，共有六十万零三千五百五十人。按圣所的舍客勒，每人半舍客勒，就是一比加。

没有一个能赎自己的弟兄，能将赎价给神，

正如人子来，不是要受人的服事，乃是要服事人，并且要舍命，作多人的赎价。”

你们知道，你们得以从你们祖先传下来虚妄的行为中救赎出来，不是靠着会朽坏的金银等物，而是凭着基督的宝血，如同无瑕疵、无玷污的羔羊的血。

王召了耶何耶大祭司长来，对他说：“从前耶和华的仆人摩西，为法柜的帐幕与以色列会众所定的捐献，你为何不叫利未人照这例向犹大和耶路撒冷征收呢？”

三年的饥荒，或败在敌人面前，被敌人的刀追杀三个月，或在国中三日有耶和华的刀，就是瘟疫，让耶和华的使者在以色列全境施行毁灭呢？’现在你要想一想，我怎样去回覆那差我来的。”

耶和华的怒气又向以色列发作，激起大卫来对付他们，说：“去，数点以色列人和犹大人。”大卫对跟随他的约押元帅说：“你来回走遍以色列众支派，从但直到别是巴，数点百姓，我好知道百姓的数目。”约押对王说：“愿耶和华—你的神使百姓的数目增加百倍，使我主我王亲眼得见。我主我王何必要做这事呢？”但王坚持他对约押和众军官的命令。约押和众军官就从王面前出去，数点以色列的百姓。他们过约旦河，在迦得谷中、城的右边亚罗珥安营，与雅谢相对。他们来到基列，到了他停‧合示地，又来到但‧雅安，绕到西顿。他们来到推罗的堡垒，以及希未人和迦南人的各城，又出来，到犹大尼革夫的别是巴。他们来回走遍全地，过了九个月又二十天，就回到耶路撒冷。约押向王报告百姓的总数：以色列拿刀的勇士有八十万；犹大有五十万人。大卫数点百姓以后，心中自责。大卫向耶和华说：“我做这事大大有罪了。耶和华啊，现在求你除掉仆人的罪孽，因我所做的非常愚昧。”大卫早晨起来，耶和华的话临到迦得先知，就是大卫的先见，说：“你去告诉大卫：‘耶和华如此说：我向你提出三样，随你选择一样，我好降给你。’”于是迦得来到大卫那里告诉他，问他：“你要国中有七年的饥荒呢？或是你在敌人面前逃跑，被追赶三个月呢？或是在你国中有三日的瘟疫呢？现在你要考虑思量，我怎样去回覆那差我来的。”大卫对迦得说：“我很为难。我们宁愿落在耶和华的手里，因为他有丰盛的怜悯；我不愿落在人的手里。”于是，耶和华降瘟疫给以色列。自早晨到所定的时候，从但直到别是巴，百姓中死了七万人。

“你们要将以色列全会众，按他们的父家，凡二十岁以上能出去为以色列打仗的，计算总数。”摩西和以利亚撒祭司在摩押平原与耶利哥相对的约旦河边吩咐他们说：“计算你们中间从二十岁以上的人数。”正如耶和华所吩咐摩西的。从埃及地出来的以色列人如下：

“你要按宗族、父家、人名的数目计算以色列全会众，数点所有的男丁。以色列中凡二十岁以上能出去打仗的，你和亚伦要按照他们的队伍数点。每支派要有一个人，就是父家的家长跟你们一起。这是帮助你们的人的名字：属吕便的，示丢珥的儿子以利蓿；

他献上自己作人人的赎价；在适当的时候这事已经证实了。

不可让愤怒触动你，使你破口谩骂；也不可因赎价大而偏行。

神就施恩给他，说：‘要救赎他免得下入地府，我已经得了赎价。

于是，耶和华降瘟疫给以色列，以色列中死了七万人。

因为人子来，并不是要受人的服事，乃是要服事人，并且要舍命作多人的赎价。”
