“ When you take a census of the sons of Israel to count them, then each one of them shall give a ransom for himself to the Lord, when you count them, so that there will be no plague among them when you count them.

“ When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.

“ Make a list of the Israelites and count them. When you do, each one must pay the Lord for his life at the time he is counted. Then a plague will not come on them when you count them.

“ When you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give a ransom for his life to the Lord when you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them.

When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when[ thou] numberest them.

“ When you take a census of the Israelites according to their number, then each man is to pay a ransom for his life to the LORD when you number them, so that there will be no plague among them when you number them.

So we have brought as an offering to the Lord what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for ourselves before the Lord.”

Joab the son of Zeruiah had begun to count them, but did not finish; and because of this, wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not included in the account of the chronicles of King David.

And the silver of those of the congregation who were counted was a hundred talents and 1,775 shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary;a beka a head( that is, half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary), assessed to each one who passed over to those who were counted, from twenty years old and upward, for 603,550 men.

No one can by any means redeem another Or give God a ransom for him—

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

So the king summoned Jehoiada, the chief priest, and said to him,“ Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and from Jerusalem the contribution of Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the congregation of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?”

three years of famine, or three months to be swept away before your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the Lord: a plague in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout the territory of Israel.’ Now, therefore, consider what answer I shall bring back to Him who sent me.”

Now the anger of the Lord burned against Israel again, and He incited David against them to say,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”So the king said to Joab the commander of the army, who was with him,“ Roam about now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and conduct a census of the people, so that I may know the number of the people.”But Joab said to the king,“ May the Lord your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king can still see; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?”Nevertheless, the king’s order prevailed against Joab and against the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army left the presence of the king to conduct a census of the people of Israel.They crossed the Jordan and camped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the Valley of Gad and toward Jazer.Then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim hodshi, and they came to Dan jaan and around to Sidon,then they came to the fortress of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites, and they went out to the south of Judah, to Beersheba.So when they had roamed about through the whole land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.And Joab gave the number of the census of the people to the king: in Israel there were eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.Now David’s heart troubled him after he had counted the people. So David said to the Lord,“ I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, Lord, please overlook the guilt of Your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”When David got up in the morning, the word of the Lord came to Gad the prophet, David’s seer, saying,“ Go and speak to David,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ I am imposing upon you three choices; choose for yourself one of them, and I will do it to you.” ’ ”So Gad came to David and told him, and said to him,“ Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee for three months before your enemies while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ of plague in your land? Now consider and see what answer I shall return to Him who sent me.”Then David said to Gad,“ I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel from the morning until the appointed time, and seventy thousand men of the people from Dan to Beersheba died.

“ Take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers’ households, whoever is able to go to war in Israel.”So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,“ Take a census of the people from twenty years old and upward, as the Lord has commanded Moses.” Now the sons of Israel who came out of the land of Egypt were as follows:

“ Take a census of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, every male, head by headfrom twenty years old and upward, whoever is able to go to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall count them by their armies.With you, moreover, there shall be a man of each tribe, each one head of his father’s household.These then are the names of the men who shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur;

who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

Beware that wrath does not entice you to mockery; And do not let the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.

And he is gracious to him, and says,‘ Free him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom’;

So the Lord sent a plague on Israel; seventy thousand men of Israel fell.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
