“ When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.

洗魯雅的兒子約押動手數點，當時耶和華的烈怒臨到以色列人；因此，沒有點完，數目也沒有寫在大衛王記上。

會中被數的人所出的銀子，按聖所的平，有一百他連得並一千七百七十五舍客勒。凡過去歸那些被數之人的，從二十歲以外，有六十萬零三千五百五十人。按聖所的平，每人出銀半舍客勒，就是一比加。

一個也無法贖自己的弟兄，也不能替他將贖價給神，

正如人子來，不是要受人的服事，乃是要服事人，並且要捨命，作多人的贖價。」

知道你們得贖，脫去你們祖宗所傳流虛妄的行為，不是憑着能壞的金銀等物，乃是憑着基督的寶血，如同無瑕疵、無玷污的羔羊之血。

王召了大祭司耶何耶大來，對他說：「從前耶和華的僕人摩西，為法櫃的帳幕與以色列會眾所定的捐項，你為何不叫利未人照這例從猶大和耶路撒冷帶來作殿的費用呢？」（

或三年的饑荒；或敗在你敵人面前，被敵人的刀追殺三個月；或在你國中有耶和華的刀，就是三日的瘟疫，耶和華的使者在以色列的四境施行毀滅。』現在你要想一想，我好回覆那差我來的。」

耶和華又向以色列人發怒，就激動大衛，使他吩咐人去數點以色列人和猶大人。大衛就吩咐跟隨他的元帥約押說：「你去走遍以色列眾支派，從但直到別是巴，數點百姓，我好知道他們的數目。」約押對王說：「無論百姓多少，願耶和華－你的神再加增百倍，使我主我王親眼得見。我主我王何必喜悅行這事呢？」但王的命令勝過約押和眾軍長。約押和眾軍長就從王面前出去，數點以色列的百姓。他們過了約旦河，在迦得谷中、城的右邊亞羅珥安營，與雅謝相對，又到了基列和他停‧合示地，又到了但‧雅安，繞到西頓，來到泰爾的保障，並希未人和迦南人的各城，又到猶大南方的別是巴。他們走遍全地，過了九個月零二十天，就回到耶路撒冷。約押將百姓的總數奏告於王：以色列拿刀的勇士有八十萬；猶大有五十萬。大衛數點百姓以後，就心中自責，禱告耶和華說：「我行這事大有罪了。耶和華啊，求你除掉僕人的罪孽，因我所行的甚是愚昧。」大衛早晨起來，耶和華的話臨到先知迦得，就是大衛的先見，說：「你去告訴大衛，說耶和華如此說：『我有三樣災，隨你選擇一樣，我好降與你。』」於是迦得來見大衛，對他說：「你願意國中有七年的饑荒呢？是在你敵人面前逃跑，被追趕三個月呢？是在你國中有三日的瘟疫呢？現在你要揣摩思想，我好回覆那差我來的。」大衛對迦得說：「我甚為難！我願落在耶和華的手裏，因為他有豐盛的憐憫。我不願落在人的手裏。」於是，耶和華降瘟疫與以色列人，自早晨到所定的時候；從但直到別是巴，民間死了七萬人。

「你們要將以色列全會眾，按他們的宗族，凡以色列中從二十歲以外、能出去打仗的，計算總數。」摩西和祭司以利亞撒在摩押平原與耶利哥相對的約旦河邊向以色列人說：「將你們中間從二十歲以外的計算總數」；是照耶和華吩咐出埃及地的摩西和以色列人的話。

「你要按以色列全會眾的家室、宗族、人名的數目計算所有的男丁。凡以色列中，從二十歲以外，能出去打仗的，你和亞倫要照他們的軍隊數點。每支派中必有一人作本支派的族長，幫助你們。他們的名字：屬呂便的，有示丟珥的兒子以利蓿；

他捨自己作萬人的贖價，到了時候，這事必證明出來。

不可容忿怒觸動你，使你不服責罰；也不可因贖價大就偏行。

神就給他開恩，說：救贖他免得下坑；我已經得了贖價。

於是，耶和華降瘟疫與以色列人，以色列人就死了七萬。

因為人子來，並不是要受人的服事，乃是要服事人，並且要捨命作多人的贖價。」
