The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. He looked– and the bush was ablaze with fire, but it was not being consumed!

“ After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the desert of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning bush.When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight, and when he approached to investigate, there came the voice of the Lord,‘ I am the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses began to tremble and did not dare to look more closely.But the Lord said to him,‘ Take the sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.I have certainly seen the suffering of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Now come, I will send you to Egypt.’This same Moses they had rejected, saying,‘ Who made you a ruler and judge?’ God sent as both ruler and deliverer through the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

with the harvest of the earth and its fullness and the pleasure of him who resided in the burning bush. May blessing rest on Joseph’s head, and on the top of the head of the one set apart from his brothers.

For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, regarding the affliction that happened to us in the province of Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of living.Indeed we felt as if the sentence of death had been passed against us, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead.He delivered us from so great a risk of death, and he will deliver us. We have set our hope on him that he will deliver us yet again,

But even Moses revealed that the dead are raised in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

Now as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?

“ I am about to send my messenger, who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming,” says the LORD who rules over all.

When you pass through the waters, I am with you; when you pass through the streams, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you.

You, however, the LORD has selected and brought from Egypt, that iron- smelting furnace, to be his special people as you are today.

“ Go and bring together the elders of Israel and tell them,‘ The LORD, the God of your fathers, appeared to me– the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob– saying,“ I have attended carefully to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt,

You allowed men to ride over our heads; we passed through fire and water, but you brought us out into a wide open place.

The LORD’s angel found Hagar near a spring of water in the desert– the spring that is along the road to Shur.He said,“ Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She replied,“ I’m running away from my mistress, Sarai.”Then the LORD’s angel said to her,“ Return to your mistress and submit to her authority.I will greatly multiply your descendants,” the LORD’s angel added,“ so that they will be too numerous to count.”Then the LORD’s angel said to her,“ You are now pregnant and are about to give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard your painful groans.He will be a wild donkey of a man. He will be hostile to everyone, and everyone will be hostile to him. He will live away from his brothers.”So Hagar named the LORD who spoke to her,“ You are the God who sees me,” for she said,“ Here I have seen one who sees me!”

Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory– the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.

Once the satraps, prefects, governors, and ministers of the king had gathered around, they saw that those men were physically unharmed by the fire. The hair of their heads was not singed, nor were their trousers damaged. Not even the smell of fire was to be found on them!

For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

the Angel who has protected me from all harm– bless these boys. May my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. May they grow into a multitude on the earth.”

“ Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate,” says the LORD who rules over all. Strike the shepherd that the flock may be scattered; I will turn my hand against the insignificant ones.

He struggled with an angel and prevailed; he wept and begged for his favor. He found God at Bethel, and there he spoke with him!As for the LORD God Almighty, the LORD is the name by which he is remembered!

Through all that they suffered, he suffered too. The messenger sent from his very presence delivered them. In his love and mercy he protected them; he lifted them up and carried them throughout ancient times.

When the LORD saw that he had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and said,“ Moses, Moses!” And Moses said,“ Here I am.”God said,“ Do not approach any closer! Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”He added,“ I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Then Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.The LORD said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt. I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land to a land that is both good and spacious, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the region of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.And now indeed the cry of the Israelites has come to me, and I have also seen how severely the Egyptians oppress them.So now go, and I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

The LORD’s angel called to Abraham a second time from heavenand said,“‘ I solemnly swear by my own name,’ decrees the LORD,‘ that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

Though the LORD desired to crush him and make him ill, once restitution is made, he will see descendants and enjoy long life, and the LORD’s purpose will be accomplished through him.Having suffered, he will reflect on his work, he will be satisfied when he understands what he has done.“ My servant will acquit many, for he carried their sins.

Then the LORD said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign country. They will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.But I will execute judgment on the nation that they will serve. Afterward they will come out with many possessions.But as for you, you will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.In the fourth generation your descendants will return here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its limit.”When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking firepot with a flaming torch passed between the animal parts.
