Connect them to the shoulder straps of the linen apron. The stones will stand for the sons of Israel. Aaron must carry the names on his shoulders as a constant reminder while he is serving the Lord.

And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance.

“ In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the Lord.

This would warn the Israelites that no unauthorized person— no one who was not a descendant of Aaron— should ever enter the Lord’s presence to burn incense. If anyone did, the same thing would happen to him as happened to Korah and his followers. So the Lord’s instructions to Moses were carried out.

So Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gifts from the generals and captains and brought the gold to the Tabernacle as a reminder to the Lord that the people of Israel belong to him.

They mounted the two onyx stones in settings of gold filigree. The stones were engraved with the names of the tribes of Israel, just as a seal is engraved.He fastened these stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as a reminder that the priest represents the people of Israel. All this was done just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Put some pure frankincense near each stack to serve as a representative offering, a special gift presented to the Lord.

He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his sacred covenant—

“ This is a day to remember. Each year, from generation to generation, you must celebrate it as a special festival to the Lord. This is a law for all time.

Cornelius stared at him in terror.“ What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied,“ Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering!

O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.

It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth.When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds,and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life.When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”Then God said to Noah,“ Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.”

Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said,“ I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king.

He has helped his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful.

Yes, he will build the Temple of the Lord. Then he will receive royal honor and will rule as king from his throne. He will also serve as priest from his throne, and there will be perfect harmony between his two roles.’“ The crown will be a memorial in the Temple of the Lord to honor those who gave it— Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Josiah son of Zephaniah.”

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

It will consist of two pieces, front and back, joined at the shoulders with two shoulder pieces.

This annual festival will be a visible sign to you, like a mark branded on your hand or your forehead. Let it remind you always to recite this teaching of the Lord:‘ With a strong hand, the Lord rescued you from Egypt.’

See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.”

Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins.The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever.
