Only Moses can come close to me. The others must not come near. And the people may not go up with him.”

Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.

When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it,

and since we have a great priest over the house of God,let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

“ Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pastureland, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?”

Then he said to Korah and all his followers:“ In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him and who is holy, and he will have that person come near him. The man he chooses he will cause to come near him.

Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will arise from among them. I will bring him near and he will come close to me— for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?’ declares the Lord.

For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.

The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
