Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.

耶和华与摩西面对面说话，好像人对朋友说话一样。然后，摩西回到营里去，只有他的侍从，一个少年人，就是嫩的儿子约书亚，不离开会幕。

那时，摩西正在牧放他岳父米甸祭司叶忒罗的羊群。有一次，他把羊群领到旷野的尽头去，到了神的山，就是何烈山。

摩西对约书亚说：“你要为我们选出人来，出去和亚玛力人争战；明天我要站在山顶上，手里拿着神的杖。”于是，约书亚照着摩西吩咐他的行了，去和亚玛力人争战；摩西、亚伦和户珥都上了山顶。摩西举起手来的时候，以色列人就得胜；摩西把手放下来的时候，亚玛力人就得胜。可是摩西的两手疲乏了，他们就搬块石头来，放在摩西下面，他就坐在上面；亚伦和户珥，一边一个，扶着摩西的两手；这样，他的两手就稳住，直到日落的时候。约书亚用刀打败了亚玛力王和他的人民。耶和华对摩西说：“我要把亚玛力的名号从天下完全抹掉；你要把话写在书上作记念，也要告诉约书亚。”

摩西的侍从，嫩的儿子约书亚，就是摩西所拣选的，回答说：“我主，摩西，请你制止他们。”

约书亚听见人民呼喊的声音的时候，就对摩西说：“营里有战争的声音。”
