“ You will be holy people to me; you must not eat any meat torn by animals in the field. You must throw it to the dogs.

“ You are to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of an animal torn by wild beasts; throw it to the dogs.

“ I want you to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of any animal that has been torn by wild animals. Throw it to the dogs.

“ You shall be consecrated to me. Therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field; you shall throw it to the dogs.

And I said,“ Ah, sovereign LORD, I have never been ceremonially defiled before. I have never eaten a carcass or an animal torn by wild beasts; from my youth up, unclean meat has never entered my mouth.”

but that we should write them a letter telling them to abstain from things defiled by idols and from sexual immorality and from what has been strangled and from blood.

You may not eat any corpse, though you may give it to the resident foreigner who is living in your villages and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. You are a people holy to the LORD your God. Do not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct,for it is written,“ You shall be holy, because I am holy.”

He must not eat an animal that has died of natural causes or an animal torn by beasts and thus become unclean by it. I am the LORD.

The priests will not eat any bird or animal that has died a natural death or was torn to pieces by a wild animal.

for I am the LORD your God and you are to sanctify yourselves and be holy because I am holy. You must not defile yourselves by any of the swarming things that creep on the ground,for I am the LORD who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God, and you are to be holy because I am holy.

And now, if you will diligently listen to me and keep my covenant, then you will be my special possession out of all the nations, for all the earth is mine,and you will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you will speak to the Israelites.”

Therefore you must distinguish between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean bird and the clean, and you must not make yourselves detestable by means of an animal or bird or anything that creeps on the ground– creatures I have distinguished for you as unclean.

“‘ Any person who eats an animal that has died of natural causes or an animal torn by beasts, whether a native citizen or a foreigner, must wash his clothes, bathe in water, and be unclean until evening; then he becomes clean.But if he does not wash his clothes and does not bathe his body, he will bear his punishment for iniquity.’”

But Peter said,“ Certainly not, Lord, for I have never eaten anything defiled and ritually unclean!”
