“ Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result,

以杖擊僕婢、而斃杖下者、必受刑、

如擊僕婢、立斃杖下者、必受刑。

人若以杖擊奴婢、死於手下、必受刑、

“ Suppose a person beats their male or female slave to death with a club. That person must be punished.

“ When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be avenged.

“ If a man beats his male or female slave with a club and the slave dies as a result, the owner must be punished.

“ When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod, and the slave dies under his abuse, the owner must be punished.

“ And if someone strikes his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies at his hand, he shall be punished.

“ And if a man beats his male or female servant with a rod, so that he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished.

And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall surely be punished.

“ When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod, and the slave dies under his abuse, the owner must be punished.

And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.

“ If a man strikes his male servant or his female servant with a staff so that he or she dies as a result of the blow, he will surely be punished.

“ If a man strikes his servant or his maid with a rod, and he dies under his hand, the man shall surely be punished.

Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.”

For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

“ An owner who hits a male or female slave in the eye and destroys it must let the slave go free to compensate for the eye.And an owner who knocks out the tooth of a male or female slave must let the slave go free to compensate for the tooth.

‘ Why have we fasted,’ they say,‘ and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’“ Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.

But the Lord said to him,“ Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.

“ Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.

Servants cannot be corrected by mere words; though they understand, they will not respond.

The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death; when the avenger comes upon the murderer, the avenger shall put the murderer to death.

“‘ Anyone who kills a person is to be put to death as a murderer only on the testimony of witnesses. But no one is to be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.“‘ Do not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. They are to be put to death.“‘ Do not accept a ransom for anyone who has fled to a city of refuge and so allow them to go back and live on their own land before the death of the high priest.“‘ Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.
