Then Solomon said: The LORD said that he would dwell in total darkness.

He bent the heavens and came down, total darkness beneath his feet.

Clouds and total darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

He wraps himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy,

Then Solomon said: The LORD said he would dwell in total darkness,

who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see, to him be honor and eternal power. Amen.

On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning, a thick cloud on the mountain, and a very loud blast from a ram’s horn, so that all the people in the camp shuddered.Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.

“ The LORD spoke these commands in a loud voice to your entire assembly from the fire, cloud, and total darkness on the mountain; he added nothing more. He wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

From the radiance of his presence, his clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals.

At that time I was standing between the LORD and you to report the word of the LORD to you, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain. And he said:
