For the commandments,“ Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet,”( and if there is any other commandment) are summed up in this,“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Then he said to them,“ Watch out and guard yourself from all types of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone else if the law had not said,“ Do not covet.”

So put to deat h whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry.

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said,“ I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

They are like lusty, well-fed stallions. Each of them lusts after his neighbor’s wife.

But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, impurity of any kind, or greed, as these are not fitting for the saints.

They confiscate the fields they desire, and seize the houses they want. They defraud people of their homes, and deprive people of the land they have inherited.

But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

A man who is all alone with no companion, he has no children nor siblings; yet there is no end to all his toil, and he is never satisfied with riches. He laments,“ For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is futile and a burdensome task!

When the woman saw that the tree produced fruit that was good for food, was attractive to the eye, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some of it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

The one who loves money will never be satisfied with money, he who loves wealth will never be satisfied with his income. This also is futile.When someone’s prosperity increases, those who consume it also increase; so what does its owner gain, except that he gets to see it with his eyes?

This is what the LORD says:“ Because Israel has committed three covenant transgressions– make that four!– I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They sold the innocent for silver, the needy for a pair of sandals.They trample on the dirt-covered heads of the poor; they push the destitute away. A man and his father go to the same girl; in this way they show disrespect for my moral purity.

Before it was sold, did it not belong to you? And when it was sold, was the money not at your disposal? How have you thought up this deed in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God!”

If my heart has been enticed by a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbor’s door,

Yes, the wicked man boasts because he gets what he wants; the one who robs others curses and rejects the LORD.

The Pharisees( who loved money) heard all this and ridiculed him.

Why haven’t you obeyed the LORD? Instead you have greedily rushed upon the plunder! You have done what is wrong in the LORD’s estimation.”

Am I not permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

The one who lives uprightly and speaks honestly; the one who refuses to profit from oppressive measures and rejects a bribe; the one who does not plot violent crimes and does not seek to harm others–

thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. He does this so he can build his nest way up high and escape the clutches of disaster.

Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.

They come to you in crowds, and they sit in front of you as my people. They hear your words, but do not obey them. For they talk lustfully, and their heart is set on their own advantage.

that I will take nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal. That way you can never say,‘ It is I who made Abram rich.’

Now godliness combined with contentment brings great profit.For we have brought nothing into this world and so we cannot take a single thing out either.But if we have food and shelter, we will be satisfied with that.Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is the root of all evils. Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.

Give me a desire for your rules, rather than for wealth gained unjustly.

For you can be confident of this one thing: that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy( such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

But you are always thinking and looking for ways to increase your wealth by dishonest means. Your eyes and your heart are set on killing some innocent person and committing fraud and oppression.

I was angry because of their sinful greed; I attacked them and angrily rejected them, yet they remained disobedient and stubborn.

I saw among the goods we seized a nice robe from Babylon, two hundred silver pieces, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels. I wanted them, so I took them. They are hidden in the ground right in the middle of my tent with the silver underneath.”

“ I made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin?

I have desired no one’s silver or gold or clothing.

If we do so, won’t their livestock, their property, and all their animals become ours? So let’s consent to their demand, so they will live among us.”

She came to him and he had sexual relations with her.( Now at that time she was in the process of purifying herself from her menstrual uncleanness.) Then she returned to her home.

Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things.
