Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

For the commandments,“ You shall not commit adultery,”“ You shall not murder,”“ You shall not steal,”“ You shall not bear false witness,”“ You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely,“ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:“ If a person sins and commits a trespass against the Lord by lying to his neighbor about what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or about a pledge, or about a robbery, or if he has extorted from his neighbor,or if he has found what was lost and lies concerning it, and swears falsely— in any one of these things that a man may do in which he sins:then it shall be, because he has sinned and is guilty, that he shall restore what he has stolen, or the thing which he has extorted, or what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or the lost thing which he found,or all that about which he has sworn falsely. He shall restore its full value, add one-fifth more to it, and give it to whomever it belongs, on the day of his trespass offering.And he shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord, a ram without blemish from the flock, with your valuation, as a trespass offering, to the priest.So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any one of these things that he may have done in which he trespasses.”

Hear this, you who swallow up the needy, And make the poor of the land fail,Saying:“ When will the New Moon be past, That we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, That we may trade wheat? Making the ephah small and the shekel large, Falsifying the scales by deceit,That we may buy the poor for silver, And the needy for a pair of sandals— Even sell the bad wheat?”

This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

We shall find all kinds of precious possessions, We shall fill our houses with spoil;Cast in your lot among us, Let us all have one purse”—My son, do not walk in the way with them, Keep your foot from their path;

‘ You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume.You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.‘ Therefore you shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them: I am the Lord.’”

And he said to them,“ Collect no more than what is appointed for you.”Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying,“ And what shall we do?” So he said to them,“ Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”

Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight.

nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

“ If a man is found kidnapping any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and mistreats him or sells him, then that kidnapper shall die; and you shall put away the evil from among you.

“ He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death.

For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor, He has violently seized a house which he did not build.“ Because he knows no quietness in his heart, He will not save anything he desires.Nothing is left for him to eat; Therefore his well-being will not last.In his self-sufficiency he will be in distress; Every hand of misery will come against him.

“ You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light.You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small.You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.For all who do such things, all who behave unrighteously, are an abomination to the Lord your God.

Then he said to me,“ This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth:‘ Every thief shall be expelled,’ according to this side of the scroll; and,‘ Every perjurer shall be expelled,’ according to that side of it.”“ I will send out the curse,” says the Lord of hosts;“ It shall enter the house of the thief And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It shall remain in the midst of his house And consume it, with its timber and stones.”

that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.

And He said to them,“ It is written,‘ My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a‘ den of thieves.’”

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

That they may successfully do evil with both hands— The prince asks for gifts, The judge seeks a bribe, And the great man utters his evil desire; So they scheme together.

For they do not know to do right,’ Says the Lord,‘ Who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.’”

Are there yet the treasures of wickedness In the house of the wicked, And the short measure that is an abomination?Shall I count pure those with the wicked scales, And with the bag of deceitful weights?
