以色列全會眾遵照耶和華的吩咐，從汛的曠野一段一段地往前行。他們在利非訂安營，但百姓沒有水喝。

神說：「我必與你同在。這就是我差派你去，給你的憑據：你把百姓從埃及領出來之後，你們必在這山上事奉神。」

摩西的岳父葉特羅帶着摩西的妻子和兩個兒子來到神的山，就是摩西在曠野安營的地方。

那時，亞瑪力來到利非訂，和以色列爭戰。

「過了四十年，在西奈山的曠野，有一位天使在荊棘的火焰中向摩西顯現。

這人是那曾在曠野的會眾中和西奈山上，與那對他說話的天使同在，又與我們祖宗同在的，他領受了活潑的聖言傳給我們。

這是比方：那兩個婦人就是兩個約；一個婦人是出於西奈山，生子為奴，就是夏甲。
