摩西的岳父葉忒羅帶著摩西的妻子和兩個兒子來到上帝的山，就是摩西在曠野安營的地方。

後來，亞瑪力人到利非訂攻打以色列人。

「過了四十年，在西奈山的曠野，上帝的天使在荊棘火焰中向摩西顯現。

這位摩西曾在曠野與以色列的會眾——我們的祖先在一起，又在西奈山上與向他傳信息的天使在一起，並且領受了生命之道傳給我們。

這些事都有更深的含義，兩個婦人是指兩個約。夏甲代表頒佈於西奈山的約，她所生的孩子是奴僕。
