Moses told his father-in-law about everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the Lord had saved them.

Moses told Jethro everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians. The Lord did all of this because of how much he loved Israel. Moses told Jethro about all their hard times along the way. He told him about how the Lord had saved them.

Then Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had come upon them in the way, and how the Lord had delivered them.

“ So now, our God– the great, powerful, and awesome God, who keeps covenant fidelity– do not regard as inconsequential all the hardship that has befallen us– our kings, our leaders, our priests, our prophets, our ancestors, and all your people– from the days of the kings of Assyria until this very day!

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom:“ Thus says your brother Israel:‘ You know all the hardships we have experienced,

He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them, and rescued them from the power of the enemy.

In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah.( Selah)

Let those delivered by the LORD speak out, those whom he delivered from the power of the enemy,

They did not remember what he had done, how he delivered them from the enemy,when he performed his awesome deeds in Egypt, and his acts of judgment in the region of Zoan.

“ You saw the affliction of our ancestors in Egypt, and you heard their cry at the Red Sea.You performed awesome signs against Pharaoh, against his servants, and against all the people of his land, for you knew that the Egyptians had acted presumptuously against them. You made for yourself a name that is celebrated to this day.You split the sea before them, and they crossed through the sea on dry ground! But you threw their pursuers into the depths, like a stone into surging waters.You guided them with a pillar of cloud by day and with a pillar of fire by night to illumine for them the path they were to travel.“ You came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven. You provided them with just judgments, true laws, and good statutes and commandments.You made known to them your holy Sabbath; you issued commandments, statutes, and law to them through Moses your servant.You provided bread from heaven for them in their time of hunger, and you brought forth water from the rock for them in their time of thirst. You told them to enter in order to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.

Your right hand, O LORD, was majestic in power, your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy.

One generation will praise your deeds to another, and tell about your mighty acts!I will focus on your honor and majestic splendor, and your amazing deeds!They will proclaim the power of your awesome acts! I will declare your great deeds!They will talk about the fame of your great kindness, and sing about your justice.The LORD is merciful and compassionate; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love.The LORD is good to all, and has compassion on all he has made.All he has made will give thanks to the LORD. Your loyal followers will praise you.They will proclaim the splendor of your kingdom; they will tell about your power,so that mankind might acknowledge your mighty acts, and the majestic splendor of your kingdom.

Come! Listen, all you who are loyal to God! I will declare what he has done for me.

Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations!Sing to him! Make music to him! Tell about all his miraculous deeds!

The Israelites said to them,“ If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this desert to kill this whole assembly with hunger!”

For how can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? I couldn’t bear to see my father’s pain.”

Then Moses led Israel to journey away from the Red Sea. They went out to the Desert of Shur, walked for three days into the desert, and found no water.Then they came to Marah, but they were not able to drink the waters of Marah, because they were bitter.( That is why its name was Marah.)So the people murmured against Moses, saying,“ What can we drink?”

Fear and dread will fall on them; by the greatness of your arm they will be as still as stone until your people pass by, O LORD, until the people whom you have bought pass by.

O God, you have taught me since I was young, and I am still declaring your amazing deeds.Even when I am old and gray, O God, do not abandon me, until I tell the next generation about your strength, and those coming after me about your power.Your justice, O God, extends to the skies above; you have done great things. O God, who can compare to you?Though you have allowed me to experience much trouble and distress, revive me once again! Bring me up once again from the depths of the earth!

Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard about all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt.
