( Moses’ first son was named Gershom, for Moses had said when the boy was born,“ I have been a foreigner in a foreign land.”

又带着西坡拉的两个儿子，一个名叫革舜，因为摩西说：“我在外邦作了寄居的”；

又带着她的两个儿子：一个名叫革舜，因为摩西说：“我在外地作了寄居者”；

及其二子、其一摩西命名革順、蓋曰、我於異邦為旅、

及其二子皆挈之以至、此二子、其一摩西命名革順、革順譯即在異邦為旅之義蓋曰、我為旅於異邦也、

and her two sons. One son was named Gershom, for Moses said,“ I have become a foreigner in a foreign land”;

Later she gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, for he explained,“ I have been a foreigner in a foreign land.”

When Moses heard that, he fled the country and lived as a foreigner in the land of Midian. There his two sons were born.

Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest— a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me.

So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey, and headed back to the land of Egypt. In his hand he carried the staff of God.

All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.

Dear friends, I warn you as“ temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.
