But select capable men from all the people— men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain— and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

But choose men of ability from all the people. They must have respect for God. You must be able to trust them. They must not try to get money by cheating others. Appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me:‘ When one rules over people in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, (niv)

He does not lend to them at interest or take a profit from them. He withholds his hand from doing wrong and judges fairly between two parties. (niv)

He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. (niv)

and Ahab had summoned Obadiah, his palace administrator.( Obadiah was a devout believer in the Lord. (niv)

I don’t know where the Spirit of the Lord may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the Lord since my youth. (niv)

These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; (niv)

“ For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself,‘ Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, (niv)

So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.So God said to him,“ Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice,I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. (niv)

Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil— (niv)

Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.”You answered me,“ What you propose to do is good.”So I took the leading men of your tribes, wise and respected men, and appointed them to have authority over you— as commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.And I charged your judges at that time,“ Hear the disputes between your people and judge fairly, whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you.Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.” (niv)

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (niv)

“ This is what the Lord Almighty said:‘ Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. (niv)

Do not take away my soul along with sinners, my life with those who are bloodthirsty,in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are full of bribes. (niv)

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. (niv)

I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani, along with Hananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most people do. (niv)

“ Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said.“ Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” (niv)

But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. (niv)

“ Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,and do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit.“ If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it.If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help them with it.“ Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.“ Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent.“ Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt. (niv)

In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it— one from the house of David— one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness. (niv)

If only one is sounded, the leaders— the heads of the clans of Israel— are to assemble before you. (niv)

Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. (niv)

So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter.Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. (niv)

So I continued,“ What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies? (niv)

Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these things, I will make it right.”“ You have not cheated or oppressed us,” they replied.“ You have not taken anything from anyone’s hand.” (niv)

No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil. (niv)

“ If I have denied justice to any of my servants, whether male or female, when they had a grievance against me, (niv)

I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. (niv)

who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken. (niv)

When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order. (niv)

He said:“ In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. (niv)

In you are people who accept bribes to shed blood; you take interest and make a profit from the poor. You extort unjust gain from your neighbors. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign Lord. (niv)

not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (niv)
