Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said,“ Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”

So they quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses replied,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”

So they argued with Moses. They said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses replied,“ Why are you arguing with me? Why are you testing the Lord?”

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”

So once more the people complained against Moses.“ Give us water to drink!” they demanded.“ Quiet!” Moses replied.“ Why are you complaining against me? And why are you testing the Lord?”

So the people complained to Moses,“ Give us water to drink.”“ Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them.“ Why are you testing the LORD?”

So the people quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water so that we may drink!” And Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”

Wherefore the people strove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?

So the people complained to Moses,“ Give us water to drink.”“ Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them.“ Why are you testing the Lord?”

Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?

So the people contended with Moses, and they said,“ Give us water to drink!” Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the LORD?”

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”

“ You shall not tempt the Lord your God as you tempted Him in Massah.

Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel.

nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;

And they tested God in their heart By asking for the food of their fancy.

Jesus said to him,“ It is written again,‘ You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”

But Ahaz said,“ I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!”

When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work.

Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses:“ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.”

Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron.And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying:“ If only we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!Why have you brought up the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here?And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.”

because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice,

But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert.

Yet they tested and provoked the Most High God, And did not keep His testimonies,

Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Then Peter said to her,“ How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

And Jesus answered and said to him,“ It has been said,‘ You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”

So now we call the proud blessed, For those who do wickedness are raised up; They even tempt God and go free.’”

So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

And the younger of them said to his father,‘ Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.

Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.And the children of Israel said to them,“ Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

And the people complained against Moses, saying,“ What shall we drink?”

Then they said to Moses,“ Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt?Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying,‘ Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”

And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them,“ If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!

And they said to them,“ Let the Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said:“ Who will give us meat to eat?We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”

Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob,“ Give me children, or else I die!”And Jacob’s anger was aroused against Rachel, and he said,“ Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”

Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.He answered and said to them,“ When it is evening you say,‘ It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’;and in the morning,‘ It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.

But the thing displeased Samuel when they said,“ Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord.
