Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”

民與摩西爭曰、飲我以水、摩西曰、奚與我爭、奚試耶和華乎、

民與摩西爭曰、盍予我水。摩西曰、奚與我爭、奚試耶和華乎。

民與摩西爭曰、以水給我飲、摩西謂之曰、何與我爭、何試主、

So they quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses replied,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”

So they argued with Moses. They said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses replied,“ Why are you arguing with me? Why are you testing the Lord?”

So once more the people complained against Moses.“ Give us water to drink!” they demanded.“ Quiet!” Moses replied.“ Why are you complaining against me? And why are you testing the Lord?”

So the people complained to Moses,“ Give us water to drink.”“ Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them.“ Why are you testing the LORD?”

So the people quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water so that we may drink!” And Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?”

Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said,“ Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”

Wherefore the people strove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?

So the people complained to Moses,“ Give us water to drink.”“ Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them.“ Why are you testing the Lord?”

Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?

So the people contended with Moses, and they said,“ Give us water to drink!” Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you test the LORD?”

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”

“ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.

They tested God again and again and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents,

They tested God in their heart by demanding the food they craved.

Jesus said to him,“ Again it is written,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

But Ahaz said,“ I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.”

when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.

where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years.

And the people spoke against God and against Moses,“ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.”

Now there was no water for the congregation. And they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.And the people quarreled with Moses and said,“ Would that we had perished when our brothers perished before the Lord!Why have you brought the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness, that we should die here, both we and our cattle?And why have you made us come up out of Egypt to bring us to this evil place? It is no place for grain or figs or vines or pomegranates, and there is no water to drink.”

none of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these ten times and have not obeyed my voice,

But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert;

Yet they tested and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep his testimonies,

Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

But Peter said to her,“ How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

And Jesus answered him,“ It is said,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.’”

And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the Lord by saying,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

And the younger of them said to his father,‘ Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them.

And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,and the people of Israel said to them,“ Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

And the people grumbled against Moses, saying,“ What shall we drink?”

They said to Moses,“ Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt?Is not this what we said to you in Egypt:‘ Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them,“ Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness!

and they said to them,“ The Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants, and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said,“ Oh that we had meat to eat!We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”

When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister. She said to Jacob,“ Give me children, or I shall die!”Jacob’s anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said,“ Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.He answered them,“ When it is evening, you say,‘ It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’And in the morning,‘ It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

But the thing displeased Samuel when they said,“ Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord.
