So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites,“ In the evening you will know that it was the Lord who brought you out of Egypt,

“我已经听见以色列人的怨言。你告诉他们，‘到了黄昏，你们就会有肉吃，早晨就会有饼可以吃饱，这样你们就知道我是你们的上帝耶和华。’”到了黄昏，果然有许多鹌鹑飞来，把营地都遮盖了。到了早晨，营区四周的地上布满露水，

但如果耶和华做一件前所未有的事，使地裂开，吞下他们和属于他们的一切，使他们活生生地坠入阴间，你们就知道这些人藐视耶和华了。”

摩西对会众说：“你们很快就知道，我所做的事都是奉耶和华之命而行，并非出于私意。

后来，他们想起古时候，想起了摩西和他的百姓，便问，带领百姓及其牧者摩西从海里出来的那位在哪里？将自己的圣灵降在他们中间的那位在哪里？用荣耀的臂膀扶持摩西，在他们面前把海水分开，使自己威名永存的那位在哪里？

耶和华对摩西说：“你快下山吧，你的百姓，就是你从埃及领出来的那些人已经败坏了。

你借着摩西和亚伦的手引领你的子民，如同牧人引领羊群。

就在那一天，耶和华带领以色列大队人马离开了埃及。

耶和华听见你们发的怨言了，晚上祂必给你们肉吃，早晨再给你们饼吃。我们算什么？你们埋怨的其实不是我们，而是耶和华。”

摩西恳求他的上帝耶和华说：“耶和华啊，你为什么要向你的子民发烈怒呢？这些子民是你亲自用神迹和大能从埃及领出来的。

“我们还不如当初在埃及就死在耶和华手中。在那里，我们至少可以围在肉锅旁吃个饱。现在，你把我们带到旷野来，是要叫全体会众饿死在这里吗？”

百姓见摩西迟迟没有下山，就聚集到亚伦那里，对他说：“领我们离开埃及的那个摩西不知怎样了，你给我们造神像来带领我们吧。”
