他们就问：“那么，你行个什么神迹，好让我们看了就可以信你呢？你可以做什么呢？我们的祖先在旷野吃了吗哪，正如经上所记：‘他把从天上来的粮赐给他们吃。’”耶稣对他们说：“我确确实实地告诉你们：那从天上来的粮不是摩西赐给你们的，而是我父把从天上来的真粮赐给了你们。要知道，神的粮就是从天上降下来、赐生命给世人的那一位。”他们就对耶稣说：“主啊，请你时常把这粮赐给我们！”耶稣对他们说：“我就是生命的粮。到我这里来的人，绝不饥饿；信我的人，永不干渴。但是我告诉过你们，你们虽然看到了我，还是不信。凡是父赐给我的人，都会到我这里来，而到我这里来的人，我绝不丢弃，因为我从天上降下来，不是要行自己的意思，而是要行那派我来者的意思。那派我来者的旨意，就是要我不失去他赐给我的任何人，而且要我在末日使他复活。要知道，我父的旨意正是：所有看见子而信他的人都得到永恒的生命，并且在末日，我将要使他复活。”这时候，一些犹太人因为耶稣说‘我是从天上降下来的粮’，就私下议论他，并说：“这不就是约瑟的儿子耶稣吗？我们不都认识他的父母吗？现在他怎么说‘我是从天上降下来的’呢？”耶稣就对他们说：“你们不要彼此议论了。如果不是派我来的父引领他，没有人能到我这里来；到我这里来的，在末日我还要使他复活。先知书上记着：‘他们都将成为神所教导的人。’任何人听了并领会了从父而来的教导，就会到我这里来。这并不是说，有谁看到父；只有从神而来的那一位，他才看到父。“我确确实实地告诉你们：信我的人，就有永恒的生命。我就是生命的粮。你们的祖先在旷野吃了吗哪，还是死了。那从天上降下来、让人吃了而不死的粮，就在这里。我就是从天上降下来的生命的粮。人如果吃了这粮，就将活着，直到永远。我要赐的粮就是我的肉身，是为了世人的生命所赐的。”于是那些犹太人彼此争论，说：“这个人怎么能把自己的肉身给我们吃呢？”耶稣说：“我确确实实地告诉你们：如果你们不吃人子的肉，不喝人子的血，你们里面就没有生命。吃我肉、喝我血的人，就有永恒的生命，在末日我还要使他复活；因为我的肉是真食物，我的血是真饮物。吃我肉、喝我血的人，住在我里面，我也住在他里面。永生的父怎样差派了我，我又因父而活，照样，以我为食的人也将因我而活。这才是从天上降下来的粮，不像吗哪。你们的祖先吃过吗哪还是死了，而吃这粮的人就将活着，直到永远。”

他降下吗哪给他们吃，把天上的粮食赐给他们；人吃到了天使的粮食；他送食物给他们，使他们满足。
