摩西對人民說：『不要懼怕，只管站住，看永恆主今天向你們所要施行的拯救；因為你們今天所看見的埃及人，你們再也永遠看不見了。永恆主必為你們爭戰；你們呢，不要作聲。』永恆主對摩西說：『你為甚麼向我哀叫呢？要吩咐以色列人往前行。你舉起你的手杖，向海伸手，使海裂開，好讓以色列人到海中去、像走旱地。我呢，你看吧，我要使埃及人的心頑強，他們就會跟着下去；我必在法老身上、在他的全軍、車輛和馬兵上得到榮耀。我在法老身上、在他的車輛和馬兵上獲得榮耀的時候，埃及人就知道我乃是永恆主。』在以色列營前面行走的上帝使者、轉到他們的後邊去；雲柱也從他們前面轉去立在他們的後邊來，在埃及營和以色列營中間。一邊是雲是黑暗：一邊照亮着黑夜；終夜彼此不能相近。摩西向海伸手，永恆主便終夜用極強的東風使海退去；他使海成了旱地；水也裂開了。以色列人下海中、在乾地上走；水在他們左右兩邊就像牆一樣。埃及人直追趕着：法老所有的馬匹和車輛馬兵、都跟着以色列人下海中去。晨更時候，永恆主在火柱雲柱中往下眺望埃及人的營，就使埃及人的營潰亂了。又纏住他們的車輪，使車行走重難，以致埃及人說：『我們從以色列人面前逃跑吧；因為永恆主為他們爭戰、攻打埃及人了。』永恆主對摩西說：『你向海伸手，叫水回到埃及人身上、到他們的車輛和馬兵身上。』摩西就向海伸手；天快亮時候，海水回到原流的分量；埃及人逆流逃跑，永恆主把埃及人都抖在海中。水一回流，淹沒了車輛和馬兵、以及法老的全軍，那些跟着以色列人下海裏去的，連一個也沒有剩下。

法老就套上車輛，帶着兵丁一同去，並帶着六百輛特選的車、和埃及所有的車，都有軍官在車上。
