Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.

遺留此諸族、以試以色列人、視其能聽從主所託摩西諭其祖之命否、

法老相離不遠、以色列人舉目見伊及人來追、懼甚、遂呼籲主、

爾當憶主爾之天主導爾於曠野、歷四十年、使爾自卑、以試驗爾、欲知爾心中如何、能守其誡否、

主諭摩西曰、我將為爾曹自天雨糧、使民出、一日斂一日所需、以試其能遵行我律否、

天主歟、曾試驗我儕、鍛鍊我儕、如鍊銀然、

主遺留此諸族、以試未曾知迦南戰事之以色列人、

以試以色列人、欲視其能效其列祖謹守遵行主之道否、

又在曠野、以爾祖不識之瑪拿飼爾、使爾自卑、以試驗爾、使爾終必享福、

以利沙曰、攜麵至此、遂以麵投於釜中、命曰、傾之出、予眾食、釜中乃無害矣、○

摩西籲主曰、我向斯民若何而行、彼幾以石擊我、

以利沙出、至水泉、以鹽投於其中、曰、主如是云、我治此水、不再使人死、亦不再使土硝瘠、或作亦不再使人小產

在主之祭司中、有摩西亞倫、在禱告主名之人中、有撒母耳、彼禱告主、主常應允、

毋聽其先知或作夢者之言、蓋主爾之天主試爾、欲知爾盡心盡意愛主爾天主否、

因十字架之道、在彼淪亡者視為愚、惟在我儕得救者、則視為天主之大能、

民對約書亞曰、不然、我必事主、約書亞謂民曰、爾擇主以事之、爾自為證、曰、我願自證、曰、爾中所有異邦之神、今當除之、一心歸向主以色列之天主、民對約書亞曰、我願崇事主我之天主、聽從其言、是日約書亞與民立約、為之定律例法度、在示劍、

主諭我曰、雖摩西撒母耳立於我前、為斯民祈禱、我心不悅斯民、當驅逐之、離於我前而去、

爾急難時呼籲我、我拯救爾、從雲密雷鳴之處應允爾、在米利巴水試驗爾、細拉、

故萬有之主如是云、我民若此、我何以處之乎、必陶鎔之、試鍊之、

其祈求我、我必應允、遭難之時、我必保祐之、拯救之、使之尊貴、

緣此爾曹歡樂、雖今不免受諸艱之試而暫憂、使爾被試之信、較之經火煉可壞之金更顯寶貴、迨耶穌基督顯現之時、各得讚美、尊貴榮光、

鍊銀者鼎、鍊金者爐、鑒察人心者乃主、

爾在患難時禱告我、我必救爾、爾當尊奉我、
