Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.

So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him.

Then he cried to Yahweh. Yahweh showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them.

耶和華留下這幾個外族是要考驗以色列人，看他們是否願意遵從祂藉摩西向他們祖先頒佈的誡命。

以色列人看見法老大軍追了上來，非常害怕，便呼求耶和華。

要記住這四十年來你們的上帝耶和華怎樣在曠野引領你們，祂磨煉你們、考驗你們，好知道你們的心意如何、肯不肯遵守祂的誡命。

耶和華對摩西說：「我要從天上降下食物給你們。百姓可以每天出去拾取他們當天所需的分量，這樣我就可以試驗他們是否遵行我的訓誨。

上帝啊，你試驗我們，熬煉我們如熬煉銀子。

耶和華為了考驗那些沒有經歷過迦南戰事的以色列人，讓他們學習作戰，就留下了以下各族：

我要藉此試驗以色列人，看他們是否像他們祖先一樣謹遵我的道。」

在曠野中把你們祖先從未見過的嗎哪賜給你們吃，為要磨煉你們、考驗你們，使你們最終得到益處。

以利沙說：「拿點麵粉來。」他把麵粉撒在鍋裡，說：「倒出來給眾人喝吧。」於是，湯裡沒有毒了。

摩西就呼求耶和華說：「我拿這些百姓怎麼辦？他們準備拿石塊打死我！」

以利沙走到水源那裡，把鹽倒在水中說：「耶和華說，『我潔淨了這水，從此它不會再使人死亡，也不會再使土地貧瘠。』」

祂的祭司中有摩西和亞倫，呼求祂的人中有撒母耳。他們求告耶和華，祂就應允他們。

你們也不可聽從他們。因為這是你們的上帝耶和華在試驗你們，要看看你們是否全心全意地愛祂。

因為十字架之道在將要滅亡的人看來是愚昧的，但對我們這些得救的人來說卻是上帝的大能，

民眾答道：「不，我們一定要事奉耶和華。」約書亞說：「現在你們自己作證，你們已選擇事奉耶和華。」民眾答道：「我們願意自己作證。」約書亞說：「這樣，你們現在就要摒棄你們中間的外族神明，專心歸向以色列的上帝耶和華。」民眾答道：「我們必事奉我們的上帝耶和華，聽從祂的話。」當天約書亞與民眾立約，在示劍為他們訂立律例和典章。

耶和華對我說：「就算摩西和撒母耳站在我面前求情，我也不會憐憫這些百姓。你把他們從我面前趕走吧！

你在苦難中向我呼求，我就拯救了你，從雷聲隆隆的密雲中應允了你。我在米利巴泉邊考驗你。（細拉）

因此，萬軍之耶和華說：「看啊，我要熬煉、試驗這些罪惡的子民，除此之外，我別無選擇。

他求告我，我就答應他；他遭遇患難，我必與他同在。我必拯救他，賜他尊貴的地位。

為此，即使現今你們必須暫時在百般試煉中忍受痛苦，也要滿懷喜樂。這樣，你們的信心經過試驗便顯明是真實的，比那經過火煉仍會壞掉的金子更加寶貴，使你們可以在耶穌基督顯現時得到稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。

鼎煉銀，爐煉金，耶和華試煉人心。

在患難中呼求我，我必拯救你，你必尊崇我。」
