When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said,“ What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!”

When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said,“ What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”

When word reached the king of Egypt that the Israelites had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds.“ What have we done, letting all those Israelite slaves get away?” they asked.

祂使仇敵憎恨他們，用詭計虐待他們。

如果他們藉著認識我們的主和救主耶穌基督，已經擺脫了世俗的污穢，但後來又被這些事纏住、俘虜了，他們的處境會比以前更糟糕。他們明知道正路，卻背棄了傳給他們的神聖誡命，這樣倒不如不知道的好。俗語說得好：「狗轉過身來，吃自己所吐的；豬洗乾淨了，又回到污泥裡去打滾。」這些話正好用在他們身上。

「有個污鬼離開了牠以前所附的人，在乾旱無水之地四處遊蕩，尋找安歇之處，卻沒有找到。於是牠說，『我要回到老地方。』牠回去後，看見裡面打掃得又乾淨又整齊，就去帶來了七個比自己更邪惡的鬼一起住在那裡。那人的下場比從前更慘了。」

所有立約的首領和人民都答應守約，並釋放了自己的奴隸，事後卻又反悔，抓回先前釋放的奴隸，再次奴役他們。那時，耶和華的話傳給了耶利米，說：「以色列的上帝耶和華說，『我曾帶領你們的祖先離開埃及，使他們不再受奴役，那時我與他們立約說，倘若你們的希伯來同胞賣身做你們的奴隸，服侍你們六年後，到第七年你們要給他們自由。你們的祖先卻掩耳不聽。不久前，你們回心轉意，做我視為正的事，釋放自己的同胞，並且在我的殿中立了約。然而，你們卻反悔，各自抓回先前釋放的奴隸，再次奴役他們，褻瀆了我的名。因此耶和華說，既然你們不聽我的話，不給自己的同胞自由，看啊，我必使你們自由地死在戰爭、瘟疫和饑荒中，使你們的遭遇令天下萬國驚懼。這是耶和華說的。

埃及人催促以色列人趕快離開埃及，因為他們說：「我們都要死了。」
