When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said,“ What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and have lost their services!”

When word reached the king of Egypt that the Israelites had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds.“ What have we done, letting all those Israelite slaves get away?” they asked.

祂使仇敌憎恨他们，用诡计虐待他们。

如果他们借着认识我们的主和救主耶稣基督，已经摆脱了世俗的污秽，但后来又被这些事缠住、俘虏了，他们的处境会比以前更糟糕。他们明知道正路，却背弃了传给他们的神圣诫命，这样倒不如不知道的好。俗语说得好：“狗转过身来，吃自己所吐的；猪洗干净了，又回到污泥里去打滚。”这些话正好用在他们身上。

“有个污鬼离开了它以前所附的人，在干旱无水之地四处游荡，寻找安歇之处，却没有找到。于是它说，‘我要回到老地方。’它回去后，看见里面打扫得又干净又整齐，就去带来了七个比自己更邪恶的鬼一起住在那里。那人的下场比从前更惨了。”

所有立约的首领和人民都答应守约，并释放了自己的奴隶，事后却又反悔，抓回先前释放的奴隶，再次奴役他们。那时，耶和华的话传给了耶利米，说：“以色列的上帝耶和华说，‘我曾带领你们的祖先离开埃及，使他们不再受奴役，那时我与他们立约说，倘若你们的希伯来同胞卖身做你们的奴隶，服侍你们六年后，到第七年你们要给他们自由。你们的祖先却掩耳不听。不久前，你们回心转意，做我视为正的事，释放自己的同胞，并且在我的殿中立了约。然而，你们却反悔，各自抓回先前释放的奴隶，再次奴役他们，亵渎了我的名。因此耶和华说，既然你们不听我的话，不给自己的同胞自由，看啊，我必使你们自由地死在战争、瘟疫和饥荒中，使你们的遭遇令天下万国惊惧。这是耶和华说的。

埃及人催促以色列人赶快离开埃及，因为他们说：“我们都要死了。”
