耶和華在他們前面行，日間用雲柱領他們的路，夜間用火柱光照他們，使他們日夜都可以行走。日間雲柱，夜間火柱，都不離開眾民的面前。

他不再是敵對者，並且他面前的使者拯救了他們。他以自己的愛和憐憫救贖了他們；在古時的一切日子，他背負他們，懷抱他們。

“看哪，我在你面前差派使者，好在路上保護你，領你到我預備的地方去。你們在他面前要謹慎，要聽他的話，不可違背他；不然，他必不赦免你們的過犯，因為他是奉我的名來的。

到了晨更的時候，耶和華透過雲柱火柱向下觀看埃及人的軍兵，並且使埃及人的軍兵大起混亂。
