Then Moses took his wife and sons and put them on a donkey and headed back to the land of Egypt, and Moses took the staff of God in his hand.

Moses stretched out his hand toward the sea, and the LORD drove the sea apart by a strong east wind all that night, and he made the sea into dry land, and the water was divided.So the Israelites went through the middle of the sea on dry ground, the water forming a wall for them on their right and on their left.

The LORD who commands armies is about to beat them with a whip, similar to the way he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb. He will use his staff against the sea, lifting it up as he did in Egypt.

“ Take the staff and assemble the community, you and Aaron your brother, and then speak to the rock before their eyes. It will pour forth its water, and you will bring water out of the rock for them, and so you will give the community and their beasts water to drink.”So Moses took the staff from before the LORD, just as he commanded him.

“ When Pharaoh says to you,‘ Do a miracle,’ and you say to Aaron,‘ Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ it will become a snake.”

The LORD said to him,“ What is that in your hand?” He said,“ A staff.”

Then Moses raised his hand, and struck the rock twice with his staff. And water came out abundantly. So the community drank, and their beasts drank too.
