立起帐幕的那日，有云彩遮盖帐幕，就是法柜的帐幕；从晚上到早晨，云彩在其上，形状如火。常是这样，云彩遮盖帐幕，夜间形状如火。云彩几时从帐幕收上去，以色列人就几时起行；云彩在哪里停住，以色列人就在那里安营。以色列人遵耶和华的吩咐起行，也遵耶和华的吩咐安营。云彩在帐幕上停住几时，他们就住营几时。云彩在帐幕上停留许多日子，以色列人就守耶和华所吩咐的不起行。有时云彩在帐幕上几天，他们就照耶和华的吩咐住营，也照耶和华的吩咐起行。有时从晚上到早晨，有这云彩在帐幕上；早晨云彩收上去，他们就起行。有时昼夜云彩停在帐幕上，收上去的时候，他们就起行。云彩停留在帐幕上，无论是两天，是一月，是一年，以色列人就住营不起行；但云彩收上去，他们就起行。他们遵耶和华的吩咐安营，也遵耶和华的吩咐起行。他们守耶和华所吩咐的，都是凭耶和华吩咐摩西的。

他们拔营往前行，日间有耶和华的云彩在他们以上。

他白日用云彩，终夜用火光引导他们。

你还是大施怜悯，在旷野不丢弃他们。白昼，云柱不离开他们，仍引导他们行路；黑夜，火柱也不离开他们，仍照亮他们当行的路。

在以色列营前行走神的使者，转到他们后边去；云柱也从他们前边转到他们后边立住。在埃及营和以色列营中间有云柱，一边黑暗，一边发光，终夜两下不得相近。摩西向海伸杖，耶和华便用大东风，使海水一夜退去，水便分开，海就成了干地。以色列人下海中走干地，水在他们的左右作了墙垣。埃及人追赶他们，法老一切的马匹、车辆，和马兵都跟着下到海中。到了晨更的时候，耶和华从云火柱中向埃及的军兵观看，使埃及的军兵混乱了；

摩西进会幕的时候，云柱降下来，立在会幕的门前，耶和华便与摩西说话。众百姓看见云柱立在会幕门前，就都起来，各人在自己帐棚的门口下拜。

当时，云彩遮盖会幕，耶和华的荣光就充满了帐幕。摩西不能进会幕；因为云彩停在其上，并且耶和华的荣光充满了帐幕。每逢云彩从帐幕收上去，以色列人就起程前往；云彩若不收上去，他们就不起程，直等到云彩收上去。日间，耶和华的云彩是在帐幕以上；夜间，云中有火，在以色列全家的眼前。在他们所行的路上都是这样。

耶和华也必在锡安全山，并各会众以上，使白日有烟云，黑夜有火焰的光。因为在全荣耀之上必有遮蔽。必有亭子，白日可以得荫避暑，也可以作为藏身之处，躲避狂风暴雨。
